We clean every room top to bottom

Every visit follows the same order

A recurring visit starts up high and finishes on the floor. We dust ceiling fan blades, light fixtures, shelves and the tops of door frames first, because whatever falls from up there lands on the surfaces below. Counters and tables get wiped down after that. Floors come last in every room, vacuumed and then mopped, so nothing we knock loose ends up sitting on a clean floor. Clean in the wrong order and you either do the room twice or leave dust on a floor that was just mopped.

The kitchen gets the most attention because it gets the most use. We clear and wipe the counters, clean the stovetop and the fronts of the appliances, and scrub the sink until the faucet shines. Grease from cooking settles on the cabinet doors near the stove and on top of the fridge. It grabs dust and turns into a tacky film. Caught on every visit, that film wipes right off. Left for a couple of months, it needs a degreaser and a lot more scrubbing.

Bathrooms get the same steady routine. We scrub the tub or shower, clean the toilet inside and out, and wipe down the sink and vanity top. The mirror goes last so splashes from the sink do not spot it. Soap scum and water spots lift easily when they are a week or two old. Give them a season and they bond to the glass and the grout, and a normal wipe no longer touches them. That is the whole case for keeping a bathroom on a schedule.

A regular schedule stops the buildup

Most dirt in a house is easy to remove while it is fresh. Dust that has sat on a shelf for a week comes off in one pass. The same dust after a humid Nashville summer has mixed with kitchen grease and moisture in the air, so it smears instead of lifting. Recurring cleaning works because the house never reaches that second stage. Each visit handles a week or two of normal living, not a whole season of it.

You also see the difference between visits. Floors in a house cleaned on a schedule stay nicer longer, because grit is not getting ground into the finish every time someone walks through. Hardwood and vinyl plank both scratch from tracked-in sand, and the wear shows first on the path from the back door to the kitchen. Regular vacuuming and mopping keeps that path from going dull, and that costs a lot less than refinishing a floor down the road.

A standing schedule also lets us learn the house. When we clean the same home on a set day, we find out which shower gets the water spots and where the dog likes to sleep. The work gets more even because nothing catches us by surprise. If a house has gone months without a real clean, the first visit is usually a deep clean instead. The recurring schedule picks up from there, once the house is back to a level a regular visit can hold.

Nashville houses change how we clean

A lot of the housing around Nashville is the one story brick ranch, with hardwood floors laid over a crawl space. Those older floors often have small gaps between the boards, and fine dirt settles down into them. A quick sweep leaves it right there. We vacuum with a hard floor setting before we mop, and we keep the mop damp instead of wet. Old hardwood soaks up water at the seams, and too much of it makes the edges of the boards curl.

Newer infill houses are a different job. The tall, narrow homes built two to a lot across Nashville usually have two or three floors. The stairs are steep, and dust collects on every tread and rail. Stairs get cleaned by hand from the top down, before the floor at the bottom gets vacuumed. These houses tend to have open kitchens that run straight into the living room. Cooking grease drifts farther there than in an older house with walls between rooms.

Out in Brentwood and Franklin, many homes are larger subdivision builds with high ceilings and two story entryways. Dust piles up on high ledges and fans, so we work those first from a step stool. The tall windows beside the front door pick up handprints at kid height. Big houses also have rooms nobody uses much. On a recurring visit we give those rooms a lighter pass and put the time where your family actually spends its day.

Tennessee seasons bring dirt into the house

Spring in Middle Tennessee coats everything in yellow pollen. It blows in every time a door opens and settles on window sills and dark furniture. A dry duster just pushes pollen around and sends some of it back into the air. During pollen season we wipe sills and flat surfaces with a damp cloth so the pollen lifts off and stays off. If anyone in the house has allergies, that one change makes a real difference in how the rooms feel.

Then the rain comes. The soil around Nashville is heavy clay. After a wet week it ends up on the mudroom floor and in the grout by the back door. Mopping wet clay spreads a thin brown film across the whole floor. On muddy weeks we vacuum the entry first to pull up the dried dirt, then mop. We pay extra attention to the paths your family and the dog use to come in from the yard.

Summer brings the humidity, and humidity is hard on a bathroom. A shower stays damp for hours when the air is already wet. Mildew starts in the grout lines and along the caulk at the base of the glass. We wipe down the shower walls on every visit and dry the fixtures before we leave. If we see black spots under the caulk that cleaning cannot reach, we tell you. Caulk with mildew behind it needs to be replaced, not scrubbed.

Recurring cleaning works around your week

We book recurring visits Monday through Saturday, and we are closed on Sunday. Pick a day and keep it, and the house is clean going into the weekend or ready for the start of the week. A recurring clean should feel like a set part of your week instead of one more thing to plan. The visit goes further when the surfaces are clear. We wipe counters and dressers, but we cannot clean under a stack of mail or a basket of laundry. We also will not shuffle your papers around without asking. A quick pickup the night before means the time goes to cleaning instead of moving things. Showing up on time matters more on a recurring schedule than on a one time job, because you plan your week around it.
