Yes. Upholstery cleaning covers fabric furniture in the house, and seat shampooing covers the car. Both work the same way: shampoo and steam loosen the dirt in the fabric, and then it gets pulled back out.
Take out anything you want to keep, especially papers and child car seats. We vacuum under the seats and into the door pockets, and that goes faster when the floor is clear.
